The way you start your mornings can set the tone for the rest of your day. Now, if you’re waking up late or skipping out on your daily workouts, you might not just be compromising a major portion of your day but also losing out on a lot of quality time for personal reflection. Think about it- all the things you could get done and plan for your day- only if you wake up a couple of hours early.
If you’re someone who wants to wake up early and follow a good morning routine but is somehow struggling with it, keep reading and allow us to break it down for you.
How to Start Your Mornings Early
Mornings can be everything you want them to be. However, this will be true only if you wake up a couple of hours early. Now, here is the question- how to do so? A good start begins with a planned out schedule laid out a day before. Most successful people call out the need for the mornings to start around 5 am. However, this may not be so practical for everybody and this is totally understandable.
A good morning routine does not have to begin at 5 am. Wake up at a time that feels comfortable and doable. Make sure you’re having an early dinner because this practice goes a long way. Ensure that you’re not using any mobile phones or digital devices at least an hour before bed. You can read a book, journal, plan out your schedule for the next day or just take the time to meditate.
How to Have Productive Mornings
Now that you’re up early, what next? For most people- their mornings begin with scrolling through their instagram or checking their inboxes. Stop. We need to change this. If you truly want your day to be productive, make it a point, a rule in fact : no phones one hour before sleep and one hour after waking up, unless it is important for you to do so.
Here, what we’ve read in some books written by some truly inspiring people is that begin with a task, start your day by completing a small task. This habit can literally take you places. The sense of accomplishment that comes from completing even the most simple tasks is what charges you with the belief that you’re ready to take on the other tasks for the day.
Allow the one hour to be truly yours. You do not have to do a rigorous workout or go for a walk immediately or head to the kitchen to squeeze out some juice. Just some simple reflection or a few minutes of deep breathing top everything. Use these couple of minutes to reflect and try being present in the moment. Think about the good things- for what you’re truly grateful for.
Now, it's time for your morning routine. Nothing works better than drinking a few glasses of water and moving your body. If you’re new to workouts, do some light stretching or go for a fifteen minute walk, preferably outside.
Once you’ve moved your body, nourish it well. After taking a bath, prepare a wholesome and nutritious meal for yourself, but here, do not rush. Take the time to truly instill positivity into the food that you’re preparing. This is what usually happens when we’re running late, we prepare our meals in such a hurry, that everything good about the entire process gets lost mid way.
Enjoy your meal, no distractions- just you and the plate in front of you. Make sure you’re taking the time to chew slowly.
What’s Next
Now, this is where you’re all set to take on the tasks for the day. Thus, the perfect morning routine does not exist, and anyone who wants you to believe that it does, is only lying to you. Let's be honest, we’re in the real world, right? We move around with packed schedules and tight deadlines with very little time to follow unreal expectations. So begin small, take small steps and practice what seems practical, the rest will naturally follow.
