Productive Anxiety: Have you experienced it?
If you watch youtube videos or frequently listen to podcasts, you must have heard great people talking great things about being productive, well, we've all been there, tried intensely hard, but where does practicality about being productive fall into place?
Let's be real, we all try setting up our alarms for 6 am and immediately want to accomplish a hundred things but will this be something that we can consistently follow? For some the answer may be yes, while for others the answer may vary and it is totally normal.
We've all been so conditioned to believe that we need to do this and do that, and we often forget that being productive can be different for different people. For some, accomplishing even a few basic things allows them to pull through the entire day and for some, getting tens of things is what gets them through.
What is important to remember here is that, being productive shall not be treated as a punishment but as a life skill. Being productive is doing something even when you do not have the motivation to do anything. It is rightly said that being motivated did not make billionaires but discipline did.
When we talk about discipline, we also need to realise that being disciplined is not something that comes around easy. Being disciplined is doing something even when you have a hundred reasons not to pull through.

But how does one be disciplined? Well it is not something that can come by easy and letting go of that productivity anxiety may take months of time simply because we have been so exposed to competition everywhere that we often feel anxious if we are too far behind from the others. It is NORMAL.
Productivity anxiety is not something we can completely master or completely forego because it is grounded in feelings and well, we all know that feelings since time, have never been contained or controlled. So, its alright if some days are tough, just have that voice in your head reminding you that there is nothing you cannot accomplish, even if you take some extra time that your body and mind need.
The pressure of being productive has indeed resulted in a kind of toxic productivity that is doing more damage than offering any benefits. What follows here is a situation of burnout which can be expressed as you being intensely involved into doing an activity for the net ten days only to feel exhausted for the net twenty days.
So, the question that lies here is that how can we move on from this stage? Focus on what works for you.
1. Try Building a Simple Routine and Stick To It.
Do not build a routine that exhausts you or overwhelms you. Try sticking to a simple routine that is doable, practical and accessible. Something that you do not need to constantly push yourselves into doing, something that feels natural.
2. Rest Is As Important As It Gets
Understand that you can only push your body to a limit and you do not want it to push back. So understand what works for you and how you can deliver your best without overwhelming yourself and avoiding the burnout. Moreover, any body who tells you not to rest till you accomplish something, is only misleading you. This cannot be the case every time and only you know how to balance things in a way that works wonders for you.
