Movie Review: People We Meet on Vacation(2026): Stream it or Skip it?
We've been hearing about this movie almost everywhere and we must add it is for all the right reasons. This movie has so much to offer, there won't be one dull moment throughout. From fun, to intense romance tension, this movie is here to deliver a rom-com, one that is going to remind you of the classics. So is this slow-burn romance really worth watching? Read to find out.
Plot (With minor spoilers!!)
Few words to sum up: a summer romance film with waring on-screen chemistry. For this movie, you have two friends, two complete opposites, two people with different ambitions, from different parts of the world who decide mutually to meet once a year to go on vacation. Not only is their friendship so unlikely to come off, but they actually do make a good pair on-screen and it is totally heartwarming watching them together.
For ten years, they have this tradition going, however, the movie starts off with letting us know that something did pull them away and we wont reveal it within this article, so you can continue reading!
Imagine this movie like the one, Just go with it, not only enough similarities but also so much more. While, we have all the good things to say about Poppy and Alex, many people have also criticised their bond and friendship simply because of Poppy's character. Her character for us, has so much depth and variety that you cannot fully get to know her without first moving past her boundaries.
While the plot is a friends-to-lovers story, it is actually so much more than that. A point of criticism for Poppy is how she comes off as self-centered. Many viewers have felt that the friendship between Poppy and Alex was not only toxic for them but for their partners as well who might have been caught between situations that were not entirely about them.
Poppy's nature is also in some ways misunderstood. Even though she is an adventurous person with a flying career, she is still viewed as someone who is obsessed with herself, or kind of full of herself. But for us, tis is not entirely what her character represents. Just like any other person, she too is constantly in search of something that her heart feels content with and honestly it just is not fair to criticise someone for truly embracing all choices and choosing themselves.
Some good highlights about the movie:
- Extremely catchy music: to instantly hook you and have you signing the lyrics all day long.
- Non-linear storytelling that feels natural and forced.
- Funny situations that add on to the chemistry between the leads.
- A balanced mix of romance and emotional depth.
